In November, 2005, Pete Thomas walked away from the finale of NBC's The Biggest Loser 2 a winner - and a loser. The prize he won was $100,000 for losing the highest percentage of weight among those contestants who had been voted off the show. What he had lost was 185 pounds in nine months ... and with it an unhealthy lifestyle that Pete, armed with knowledge about nutrition and exercise, has truly put behind him.
The new Pete Thomas walks around with a body fat percentage near the single digits, compared to the 51% body fat he dragged around in his 400+ pound pre-Biggest Loser days. And he doesn't just walk anymore. Pete runs for nearly an hour per day, in addition to a half hour, four days a week, of the same rigorous resistance training Pete learned on the ranch.
As a child, Pete never learned about nutrition and exercise due to his transient lifestyle - a result of his mother's serious mental illness. Several times as a young child, he was left alone or with his younger sister, Melay, for weeks at a time, forced to find food wherever he could. Although an avid reader, Pete missed major portions of elementary school as he was in and out of multiple foster homes. Still, he managed to graduate high school with honors in Detroit, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and Who's Who Among American High School Students.
While attending the University of Michigan, Pete met Pam, and the two were married in 1991. As he worked to build a successful marriage and career, Pete began to exercise less and less - and eventually quit altogether. That's when years of poor eating habits began to catch up with him. During his first 14 years of marriage, he gained 10 pounds per year, despite following a number of fad diets.
"Being on The Biggest Loser really saved my life," Pete says. The knowledge he gained from trainer Jillian Michaels revolutionized the way he eats and exercises, so that now, more than 3 years after being voted off the show, he has successfully kept the weight off.
Pete travels as a public speaker motivating businesses, groups and individuals around the country with the messages ‘Winners Overcome Obstacles’ and 'Winners Work Hard' which explain that to be successful in any area of life one should see hurdles and hard work as an opportunity, not an obstacle.
In addition, his personal struggles with weight and his newfound knowledge and passion for nutrition and exercise have lead to him personally developing a ten week comprehensive health and wellness class entitled, 'Lose It Fast Lose It Forever™’ which he currently teaches in Michigan in conjunction with the Ann Arbor Public Schools Department of Recreation and Education.
Pete has been featured in People Magazine, TV Guide, Runners World and various other print outlets. He has appeared on The 700 Club, eXtra, ABC’s ‘The View’ and commercials nationwide as his incredible story garners regular coverage in the media.
Pete is a successful real estate investor and works with other real estate investors as a certified Investor Mortgage Pro, which allowed him the freedom to leave home for three months to go to the Biggest Loser ranch. With his wife Pam, the Thomases live in Michigan and specialize in providing foreclosed properties and mortgage financing for investors and homeowners nationwide. They also rehabilitate houses for sale and rental, as well as assist people in foreclosure. For more information contact the Team here at WinningMan.com
